Associate or Full Specialist - Alvarez-Buylla lab
The Specialist will contribute to studies investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating neural progenitor amplification and interneuron production in the developing human forebrain. The incumbent will participate in experimental design, execution, data analysis, and interpretation of studies focused on human and mouse neural progenitor populations.
Responsibilities include:- Processing and analysis of human and mouse brain tissue samples.
- Performing immunohistochemistry, RNAscope, confocal microscopy, and quantitative image analysis.
- Conducting single-nucleus multiome sequencing and spatial transcriptomic experiments.
- Assisting with experimental optimization, protocol development, and validation of novel methodologies.
- Analyzing and interpreting molecular, imaging, and genomic datasets.
- Maintaining accurate laboratory records and ensuring compliance with laboratory and institutional policies.
- Contributing to manuscript preparation, data presentation, progress reports, and grant-related activities.
- Participating in laboratory meetings and collaborating with members of multidisciplinary research teams.
The Specialist will contribute directly to the generation, analysis, and validation of datasets required to accomplish the specific aims of the research program.
Required Qualifications- Specialist appointed at the Associate rank must have a Master’s degree (or equivalent degree) in Neuroscience or Neurobiology.
- Specialist appointed at the Full rank must have a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) in Neuroscience or Neurobiology.
- Have at least five years of research experience.
- Experience in neuroscience, developmental biology, molecular biology, or a related research area.
- Demonstrated ability to independently perform laboratory experiments and analyze research data.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
- Experience working with human or mouse brain tissue.
- Experience with immunohistochemistry, RNAscope, confocal microscopy, and image analysis software (e.g., Imaris, ImageJ/Fiji).
- Experience with single-cell or single-nucleus genomics, multiomic approaches, and/or spatial transcriptomic technologies.
- Experience with data analysis using R, Python, or related computational tools.
- Prior experience in developmental neuroscience and neural stem cell biology.
