Junior Specialist – Department of Neurology
Job DescriptionJunior specialist position in a Neurology laboratory to support brain injury research in a collaborative academic environment. This entry‑level role is ideal for applicants intending to progress to graduate school seeking hands‑on experience.
Current research in the lab emphasizes the impact of systemic acid‑base status (pulmonary ventilation and kidney function) on cerebral physiology in health and disease. Research activities include electrophysiology, optical imaging, surgical procedures, histology, and microscopy. With guidance from the PI, the Junior Specialist will have opportunities to learn these specialized research techniques, make scientific contributions to ongoing studies, and pursue independent research questions aligned with funded projects and personal interests.
PositionDuties / Responsibilities
- Animal work in in vivo studies such as mouse colony management, including coordination of routine husbandry, genotyping support, and maintaining accurate animal records in compliance with institutional guidelines.
- Preparing laboratory reagents.
- Lab management: lab organization, inventory management, monitoring stock levels, order placement, and maintaining clear laboratory records.
- A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) or at least four years of research experience.
- Candidate’s CV must state qualifications or if pending upon submission.
- Minimum one‑year commitment.
- A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, physics, or a related field.
- Two‑year commitment preferred.

Salary$55,000–$58,600.
