Overview
A Junior Specialist is sought by the Weill Institute for Neurosciences to support the Weill Neuro Biorepository. The incumbent will assist translational research studies by handling and processing incoming human biospecimens, including blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).
Responsibilities- Sample Processing:
Prepare plasma, serum, cells, and high-quality DNA from whole blood for storage in the biorepository, maintaining safety, integrity, and traceability. Apply and refine standardized protocols for consistency and reproducibility across studies. - Sample Handling:
Quantitate and aliquot DNA samples for long-term storage; retrieve samples for aliquoting and distribution to co-investigators with accurate tracking and adherence to study protocols. - Data Entry and Management:
Enter and review computerized records to document production, labeling, storage, and shipment of samples; help maintain high-quality datasets for downstream research. - Reagent Preparation:
Prepare media and reagents for whole blood processing and related laboratory procedures, ensuring quality across experiments. - Research Support and Experimental Contribution:
Support experimental workflows, assist with optimization of laboratory protocols, and troubleshoot to improve data quality and efficiency. - Data Analysis and Interpretation:
Assist with data organization, preliminary analysis, and quality assessment; contribute to interpretation of results with the research team. - Scholarly Contributions:
Help prepare scientific materials, including methods documentation, data summaries, and figures for manuscripts and presentations; assist with literature reviews relevant to ongoing research. - Scientific Communication:
Participate in lab meetings and assist in preparing materials for presentations, abstracts, and reports; opportunities for co-authorship may be available based on contribution.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) or at least four years of research experience. Candidates must meet qualifications at the time of hire. The CV should state qualifications or indicate pending status upon submission.
- Prior experience handling human blood specimens.
- Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques.
