Job Description & How to Apply Below

Senior Scientist I / II – Institute of Medicine (IOM) Drug Discovery and Development Sciences Team

We are seeking a highly motivated, creative, and collaborative individual who is passionate about employing scientific knowledge to restore cell health and resilience. You will work closely with the Senior Director of Pathology and cross‑functional team members to deliver high‑quality pathology data that informs target selection, translational strategy, safety assessment, and development decisions.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team, working in a highly dynamic environment that requires effective collaboration with our early research function, Discovery Science.

As a Senior Scientist, you are expected to be an integral part of the discovery and translational project teams. Using your expertise and strong communication skills, you will guide the preclinical investigative strategy to qualify potential drug targets, help understand drug pharmacologic mechanisms, and connect the basic biology of cell and tissue injury to the pathophysiology of systemic disease. In collaboration with your cross‑functional team, you will aid disease model selection and characterization, biomarker discovery, and data interpretation.

A key requirement for success in this role is scientific curiosity and desire to grow and adapt to rapidly evolving technology and pipeline priorities.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely in project teams including basic science and early researchers to understand target biology, paying particular attention to how molecular mechanisms could drive disease pathophysiology at the tissue and organism level.
  • Build strong trusting partnerships, working closely on the research and deep science, supporting the bridge from basic science to humans.
  • Perform detailed histological evaluations of tissue samples to identify compound‑related treatment effects, including toxicity and pharmacology.
  • Contribute to the design of in‑vivo studies and provide clinical pathology and histopathological data interpretation.
  • Work with Discovery Sciences and In Vivo Translational Sciences to identify and characterize disease model systems.
  • Guide the development of novel molecular pathology assays and digital image analysis algorithms.
  • Contribute to a team culture that promotes continuous improvement, ownership, professional growth, and inclusion.
  • Contribute to the cross‑functional creation and review of study reports.
Who You Are
  • The successful candidate will have a strong pathology background with appropriate scientific training and a 3

    Rs‑centered, welfare‑oriented approach to animal‑based research.
  • Typically have 7 years+ experience (including education and residency training).
  • Be a clear and influential communicator, with the ability to give and receive feedback to improve on outcomes and impact.
  • Have strong demonstrable influencing skills that demonstrate strong thought partnership and judgment, which creates effective relationships with internal and external groups and individuals.
  • Strong scientific aptitude and ability to implement investigative strategies to elucidate mechanisms of pharmacology and toxicology.
  • A critical thinker with the ability to analyze possibilities and solutions and make pragmatic trade‑offs.
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and formal pathology residency training (DACVP or DECVP certification or eligibility).
  • PhD in Pathology or a closely related discipline highly desirable.
  • Demonstrable understanding of how to work effectively in cross‑functional research teams.
Salary Range:
