Assistant/Associate Director, Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory
The Department of Laboratory Medicine seeks outstanding candidates for a full‑time faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level in the Health Sciences Clinical or Clinical (X) series to support continued growth in our high‑volume, CLIA/CAP‑accredited Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory. The successful candidate will also serve as Assistant or Associate Director of the laboratory, commensurate with their experience.
Qualifications- PhD, MD, or DO in Clinical Laboratory Science, Genetics, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
- ABMGG board certified or board eligible in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics, or Molecular Genetic Pathology, or a closely related field.
- Hands‑on experience with molecular analyses in a clinical or experimental setting, including next‑generation sequencing (NGS) platforms and PCR‑based methods.
- Experience with fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), SNP microarray, and optical genome mapping preferred.
- Strong preference for experience in hematologic molecular diagnostics, including testing for hematolymphoid neoplasms.
- Prior leadership experience within a CLIA/CAP‑accredited molecular diagnostics laboratory preferred.
- Sign out cases across the laboratory’s test menu and provide consultation to physicians on test selection and result interpretation.
- Support and expand molecular testing for UCSF hematology/oncology and hematopathology services through targeted NGS panels, RT‑PCR fusion transcript detection, single‑gene and fragment‑analysis assays, repeat‑expansion and inherited‑disease testing, methylation profiling, and hematologic cytogenomic testing (FISH, SNP microarray, optical genome mapping).
- Participate in test development, validation, and clinical implementation of new assays across the UCSF Health Genetics and Genomics Laboratories.
- Collaborate with directors across UCSF Health Genetics and Genomics Laboratories and communicate with clinicians, technical staff, laboratory administration, and pathologists.
- Provide teaching and training to fellows, residents, and students in genetics and molecular pathology.
- Engage in clinical and translational research; experience developing or implementing artificial intelligence or machine learning algorithms for assay interpretation is especially encouraged.
Minimum base salary range: $160,900 – $422,300. Eligibility for additional compensation under the Health Sciences Compensation Plan.
