Research Scientist, AI Evaluation
Fleet studies how environments produce intelligence. We believe intelligence is an emergent property of environmental pressures — the environment determines what capabilities develop, what behaviors survive, and what "good" looks like. We work with frontier labs on post-training across modalities — building benchmarks that expose where frontier models break, training recipes that close those gaps, and scalable oversight for long-horizon agents.
Backed by Sequoia Capital, Menlo Ventures, BCV, and SV Angel.
We're looking for a Research Scientist to join our core research team in SF. The work is open-ended: you'll study how environments produce intelligence, carry your own research threads, and collaborate directly with frontier labs.
What You'll Work On- Benchmarks — identify where frontier models break and build the evaluations that expose those gaps
- Environment generation at scale — automated task and environment construction for agent training
- Denser reward signals and faithful simulations for long-horizon tasks
- Pushing best-in-class specialized models through better data and training recipes
- You carry your own research threads, each producing a concrete artifact: a paper, benchmark release, training recipe, or open-source code
- Direct collaboration with frontier labs
- Experience designing and running research experiments end-to-end
- High ownership — you manage your own research threads and are measured by what you produce
San Francisco (on-site). Highly competitive salary + equity.
