Overview
The Mucke Laboratory at the Gladstone Institute of Neurological Disease is seeking a dedicated Research Associate I/II to help uncover mechanisms of major brain disorders and develop novel therapeutic strategies.
Responsibilities- Maintain a complex colony of genetically engineered mouse models, including acquisition, breeding, genotyping and distribution of mice, and computerized record-keeping.
- Perform small rodent surgeries, including stereotactic injections and electrode implantations.
- Prepare and maintain primary cell cultures.
- Conduct molecular biology techniques, including cloning, protein assays, gel electrophoresis, western blotting and RT‑qPCR.
- Execute histology and light microscopy techniques, including fixation and sectioning of tissues, immunostaining and image processing.
A BS/BA in neuroscience, biology or a related field. 2+ years of relevant experience is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a strong work ethic, organizational and interpersonal skills, accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to multitask. Physical stamina and comfort with the physical demands of the role are required.
Physical DemandsRequires bending, squatting, climbing stairs, pushing or pulling up to 25 pounds, reaching above shoulder level, sitting, standing and walking, carrying or lifting 20–25 pounds, and repetitive movements of upper and lower extremities. May be exposed to chemical agents.
SalaryRA I: $28.35/hr ($58,968) – $32.67/hr ($67,949); RA II: $70,304 – $82,711. Title and salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
