The Shy Lab in the UCSF Department of Laboratory Medicine is recruiting a Staff Research Associate (SRA) to assist with cutting-edge cellular engineering projects. Our lab develops novel genome/epigenome editing strategies to reprogram human immune cells for therapeutic applications: including cancer, genetic diseases, and neurodegeneration.
In this role, the SRA will explore state-of-the-art methods for genetically engineering primary human immune cells – with the goal of reprogramming these cells to perform new therapeutic functions in the brain.
This position is well-suited for candidates interested in applying to PhD or MD/PhD programs within 2-3 years. Located in the Gladstone-UCSF Institute for Genomic Immunology, the Shy Lab is a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary academic environment. The SRA will gain impactful research experience, and receive ample support for professional development and career advancement.
Eligible candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, and at least 1 year of research experience in a laboratory setting. Familiarity with mammalian cell culture is preferred. Additional qualifications include excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and a strong commitment to laboratory safety and accuracy. Candidates with prior experience in immunology, cellular engineering, or genome/epigenome editing are strongly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities of the SRA will include but are not limited to: conducting experiments under the guidance of senior lab members, performing data analysis and interpretation, presenting findings to lab members and collaborators, and participating in the design and execution of new research projects.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge research in a stimulating and supportive lab environment. Join our team of scientists developing novel therapeutic approaches for some of the most pressing medical conditions of our time.
