Job Summary
Works on research data reporting assignments that are of moderate diversity in scope. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Involves gathering, analyzing, and interpreting a wide variety of research data. Designs and conducts research including selecting data samples, developing research instruments, analyzing collected information according to established statistical methods, and developing recommendations based on research findings.
Prepares reports, charts, tables, and other visual aids to interpret and communicate data and results. We are seeking a full‑time Data Analyst to become an integral part of our team in the Department of Neurology at UCSF, supporting epidemiologic studies on Parkinson’s disease and other related research.
- Conduct primary statistical analyses, including data tabulation and reporting, descriptive statistics, and multivariate and longitudinal data analyses.
- Conduct data quality control and maintain research gathering, retrieval, and reporting systems.
- Contribute to analyses of genetic risk factors for Parkinson’s disease among ancestrally diverse samples.
- Facilitate harmonization of study data with external datasets, interpreting and writing up results for publication.
- Assist with progress reports and engage in the grant‑writing process, including preparation of preliminary analyses.
- Collaborate in the design, documentation, testing, and implementation of research studies, liaising with study leadership and multi‑function teams.
- Prepare reports and analyses for internal department constituents, ensuring data quality control and data cleaning.
- Manage and develop data dictionaries, codebooks, and survey instruments; develop data quality control measures to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist in developing systems for organizing data to analyze, identify and report trends.
- Plan limited studies or assist higher level analysts in large, complex studies.
- Proficiency with cloud‑based computing.
- Working knowledge of statistical genetic analysis for ancestrally diverse study samples.
- Proficiency in statistics, data analysis, research methods and statistical packages such as SPSS, SAS, and/or R, or a related package.
- Proficiency in applications such as MS Excel and PowerPoint for presenting summary reports, charts, tables, and other visual aids.
- Self‑motivated, positive attitude, and strong attention to detail.
- Process oriented with excellent documentation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and administrative skills.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Ability to work independently, complete projects in a timely manner, and prioritize multiple projects to ensure completion of essential tasks by deadlines.
- Working knowledge of research function.
- Working skills in statistical analysis, systems programming, Redcap database design, and data security measures.
- Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
- Outstanding communication and people skills.
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Candidates must possess the required qualifications by the time of hire.
- Masters of Science in Biostatistics.
- Familiarity with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological disorders.
- Familiarity with the development of relational databases.
- Prior experience working with large and complex datasets.
- Skills in project management.
- Working knowledge of common organization‑ or research‑specific and other computer application programs such as Box, Google Drive, Outlook, Zoom, Python, Slack, Github, Basecamp, and cloud computing systems.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local research regulations and guidelines, and research practice methods in a laboratory or clinical setting.
- Experience applying Good Clinical Practice Guidelines, HIPAA, protection of human research subjects, CHR regulations for recruitment and consent of research subjects, and GDPR.
