Junior Specialist - Orthopaedic Trauma Research

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco is seeking a Junior Specialist to support research activities within the Orthopaedic Trauma Institute (OTI) under the direction of Dr. Theodore Miclau and Dr. Madeline Mac Kechnie.

The Junior Specialist will contribute to clinical research projects focused on orthopaedic trauma, fracture healing, musculoskeletal injury, outcomes research, and related areas of orthopaedic surgery, including global orthopaedic surgery. Responsibilities may include coordinating research studies, recruiting and screening participants, collecting and managing research data, maintaining regulatory documentation, conducting literature reviews, assisting with statistical analyses, preparing abstracts and manuscripts, and supporting presentations for scientific meetings.

The Specialist will work closely with faculty investigators, research staff, trainees, and collaborators across UCSF and affiliated institutions.

The position offers an opportunity to gain experience in clinical research methodology, data management, scientific writing, and orthopaedic surgery research within a leading academic medical center.

Responsibilities

Coordinate research studies, recruit and screen participants, collect and manage research data, maintain regulatory documentation, conduct literature reviews, assist with statistical analyses, prepare abstracts and manuscripts, and support presentations for scientific meetings.

Basic Qualifications
  • Specialists appointed at the Junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience.
  • Applicants must meet the basic qualifications at the time of application.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, human biology, public health, neuroscience, biomedical sciences, or a related field.
  • Prior experience supporting clinical, translational, or laboratory research projects.
  • Experience with human subjects research, participant recruitment, and data collection.
  • Familiarity with REDCap, electronic databases, or clinical research software.
  • Experience conducting literature reviews and scientific writing.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
  • Experience with statistical analysis software such as R, SPSS, Stata, or similar programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interest in orthopaedic surgery, musculoskeletal research, trauma research, or academic medicine.

Salary range: $57,000 - $60,700.
