The Position

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available for a highly motivated and independent candidate to join the laboratory of Dr. Andrew Ng in the Department of Cell Therapy and co-mentored by Dr. Hye-Jung Kim in the Department of Immunology Discovery Ng Laboratory is dedicated to the development of synthetic biology and genome engineering technologies. We collaborate with the Kim Laboratory to study and develop treatments for immune disorders such as inflammatory bowel disease and multiple sclerosis.
Together we utilize state-of-the-art in vitro and in vivo techniques spanning machine learning, in vivo quantitative imaging, and single-cell multi-omics.
- To innovate at the cutting edge of synthetic biology to push the boundaries of cell therapy.
- To employ state-of-the-art technologies exploring fundamental immunology.
- To collaborate with other researchers across the organization to accelerate research progress and foster interdisciplinary knowledge.
- To take advantage of Genentech’s rich environment, including animal modeling, computational sciences, viral vector and cell engineering cores.
- To participate in the Genentech post-doctoral training program, which offers outstanding training and mentorship, opportunities to present work internally and externally, career development support, and exposure to an environment focused on drug development and breakthrough discoveries.
- Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, or a related field, with a proven track record of research accomplishments.
- Knowledge and hands‑on experience in the areas of immunology and T cell biology.
- Working experience with in vivo models.
- Ability to formulate scientific questions and hypotheses.
- Ability to design, perform, interpret, and effectively communicate experiments to test these hypotheses.
- Ability to analyze higher dimensional data.
- Must have advanced at least one key research project as evidenced by a first‑author paper published or accepted in a leading peer-reviewed journal.
- Independent scientist with outstanding communication and collaboration skills, as well as a strong passion and commitment to science.
- Working experience with molecular biology, protein engineering, and cell engineering techniques.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, California is $100,000 to $106,500. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
