Experimental Biology of Aging
The Singh Lab at UCSF ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) is recruiting multiple postdoctoral fellows to study vertebrate aging and developmental diapause in the African killifish. Located at the UCSF Parnassus campus, our lab combines cutting-edge experimental approaches with cross-species comparative genomics and machine learning to target conserved mechanisms of aging, age-related disease, and complex phenotypes such as developmental diapause.
The RoleYou will lead independent research aimed at understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate aging, tissue resilience, and cellular survival. A central component of this role is to develop new transgenic lines and experimental approaches to understand the biology of aging and identify mechanisms that promote healthy longevity. Working closely with computational biologists, you will translate discoveries from cross-species single-cell and multi-omic datasets into mechanistic insight through in vivo experimental validation.
We primarily use African killifish as our model system. Several killifish species possess a naturally compressed ~6-month lifespan and the remarkable ability to enter embryonic suspended animation (diapause), providing a uniquely powerful vertebrate system for studying vertebrate aging.
Required Qualifications- PhD or MD/PhD in developmental biology, genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, or a related biomedical field.
- Strong track record of peer-reviewed publications demonstrating aptitude in designing and executing robust experimental protocols.
- Proven expertise in advanced molecular and cell biology techniques (e.g., molecular cloning, advanced imaging, or cell culture).
- Experience with CRISPR-based genome manipulation (such as microinjections, knockouts, knock-ins, or functional screens).
- Experience with next-generation sequencing library preparation workflows (e.g., tissue dissociation, single-cell/nucleus, multiomic, or spatial biology is a plus).
- Excellent communication skills and a desire to work closely with computational biologists in a collaborative, interdisciplinary setting.
