The Singh Lab at UCSF is seeking a highly motivated Specialist to join our research program at the intersection of aging biology, genomics, and machine learning (AI/ML). Our lab is tackling the fundamental questions in the field of aging using a multi-disciplinary approach. We generate and integrate cutting-edge single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and other multi-omics datasets with advanced machine learning techniques to decipher the intricate genomic changes that drive aging and age-related diseases.

We primarily use the African killifish as our model system. By comparing genomic patterns across species, we aim to identify conserved processes that underlie aging and develop innovative strategies to promote healthy lifespan.
We are looking for creative and passionate individuals with either computational (genomics, bioinformatics, AI/ML) or experimental biology (molecular biology, developmental biology) expertise who want to discover innovative ways to combat aging and age-related diseases. The candidate will work on interdisciplinary projects including AI/ML, high-throughput and single-cell multi-omics, CRISPR-Cas9-based genome editing, and molecular and developmental biology techniques.

• Junior Specialist- A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent degree) in bioinformatics, experimental biology, engineering or related disciplines or at least four years of research experience.
• Assistant Specialist- A master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or a bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, experimental biology, engineering or related disciplines with three or more years of research experience.
• Associate Specialist- A master’s degree (or equivalent degree) in bioinformatics, experimental biology, engineering or related disciplines or five to ten years of relevant experience.
• Full Specialist- A doctoral degree (or equivalent degree) in bioinformatics, experimental biology, engineering or related disciplines or ten or more years of relevant experience.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written)
• Willingness and ability to learn new methods and skills for changing research priorities.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a research team.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, coordinate work tasks with others, and meet multiple deadlines

• Proven experience analyzing scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq, spatial-RNA-seq or other genomic data.
• Proven experience expertise in AI/ML applied to genomic data.
• Proficiency in R, Python and relevant libraries for machine learning (e.g., scikit-learn, Tensor Flow, PyTorch).
• Experience with molecular or developmental biology techniques, including molecular cloning, working with DNA, protein (IHC and Western blotting), RNA extraction, qPCR/qRT-PCR analysis, confocal imaging etc.
• Gene editing using CRISPR-Cas9, guide design, microinjection,
• Experience or desire to learn next-generation genomics library preparation such as 10x-genomics and RNA/ATAC/ChIP-seq, metabolomics etc.

See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $57,000-$201,700.
