The Cook II (Intermediate Cook) is a skilled culinary professional responsible for executing high-quality food production in a luxury hotel environment. This role supports both fine dining restaurant operations and high-volume banquet production, requiring strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform consistently under pressure. The ideal candidate has a solid culinary foundation, experience working multiple stations, and the flexibility to support various outlets and events while maintaining Grand Hyatt at SFO’s elevated standards of quality, presentation, and service.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and execute menu items for the fine dining restaurant, banquets, and other food & beverage outlets according to standardized recipes and plating standards.
- Work assigned stations (hot line, garde manger, banquet production, prep) with speed, accuracy, and consistency.
- Support high-volume banquet production, including plated and buffet service for meetings, conferences, and special events.
- Maintain proper food handling, storage, labeling, and rotation practices (FIFO).
- Assist with mise en place, prep work, and station setup for daily service and events.
- Ensure food quality, temperature, and presentation meet luxury brand standards at all times.
- Collaborate with culinary leadership and team members to ensure smooth service flow.
- Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary workstations; follow HACCP, health department, and Hyatt sanitation standards.
- Properly operate and care for kitchen equipment and tools; report maintenance or safety issues promptly.
- Support menu changes, special requests, and VIP events as needed.
- Assist with inventory awareness, waste reduction, and portion control initiatives.
- Perform other culinary duties as assigned to support overall kitchen operations.
This is an hourly position with a compensation of $32.58 per hour.

Qualifications- Minimum 2–4 years of culinary experience in a professional kitchen.
- Working knowledge of basic to intermediate cooking techniques, knife skills, and station execution.
- Experience in a full-service or luxury hotel, fine dining restaurant, or high-volume banquet operation.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and proper kitchen procedures.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to moderate weight.
- Strong sense of urgency and ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to work any day, including holidays and weekends. The primary shift is 3 PM-11:30 PM but preferred to have open availability.
- Culinary degree or certificate from an accredited institution.
- Experience working in a luxury hotel or airport hotel environment.
- Prior experience supporting both restaurant and banquet kitchens.
- Serv Safe or equivalent food safety certification.
