Inventory Optimization Outlet Planner Associate
Hybrid in San Francisco, CA
Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000
Job DescriptionThe Inventory Optimization Planner is responsible for maximizing the profitability and sell-through of Marine Layer’s aged and off-price inventory across all liquidation channels — including our owned outlet stores, online selling, and off-price wholesale partners. This role sits at the intersection of inventory strategy, sales execution, and operational fulfillment, and is critical to protecting brand integrity while driving profitable inventory resolution.
The ideal candidate is analytically sharp, commercially minded, and comfortable managing external customer relationships alongside internal cross‑functional partnerships.
- Own the assortment and inventory flow strategy across outlet stores, partnering with the Visual team to ensure presentation standards and product adjacencies are optimized
- Determine and execute outlet pricing strategy, including initial ticket price, and markdown cadence, in partnership with Planning to ensure alignment with margin goals
- Analyze outlet sales trends, price point and category productivity, and inventory depth to identify and act on opportunities
- Develop and execute store-level allocation strategies to accelerate inventory turns and drive profitable sell-through against inventory movement targets
- Conduct regular sell-through and inventory health reviews to flag underperforming styles and recommend action
- Ensure outlet assortment reflects brand standards and does not conflict with full-price channel positioning
- Determine optimal inventory deployment across outlet, online web sales, and off-price wholesale to maximize profitability
- Partner with the Planning team to identify at-risk and aging inventory; develop mitigation strategies in-season before liability compounds
- Maintain style‑level profitability analysis to identify the highest‑margin resolution path for each unit
- Build and manage line sheets for each off‑price customer, incorporating style‑level costing, available inventory, and account specific margin targets
- Report on aging on‑hand inventory at key seasonal milestones, with recommended action plans
- Manage end-to-end commercial relationships with off-price wholesale accounts, including Marmaxx and Nordstrom Rack
- Lead offer negotiations with a focus on margin maximization, not just volume movement
- Identify and cultivate new wholesale partnerships with favorable margin profiles to diversify the channel mix
- Manage end-to-end order processing, including order entry in Net Suite and warehouse WMS, item fulfillment tracking, and invoicing for timely payment
- Adhere to all vendor compliance guidelines and routing handbooks for wholesale accounts
- Coordinate with the warehouse team to ensure accurate shipment information and on‑time execution without exception needs
- 1 - 3 years experience in inventory planning, merchandise planning, or a wholesale/off-price buying role
- Strong analytical skills; comfortable working with sell‑through data, margin math, and inventory aging reports
- Proficiency in Excel; experience with Net Suite or similar ERP a plus
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple customer accounts and operational workflows simultaneously
- Clear communicator who can translate inventory data into actionable commercial recommendations
- A collaborative team player who can work cross‑functionally with Planning, Visual, and Warehouse teams
- Competitive pay and potential for equity compensation
- Flexible time off
- Health, Vision and Dental Insurance
- 401k with Matching
- Flexible Spending Accounts
- Cell Phone Reimbursement
