About the Job

As a Produce Shift Lead, you are responsible for supporting the Produce Supervisor in daily department duties. You are expected to be a leadership presence on the floor and a PIC (Person In Charge) throughout your shift. You will be responsible for providing floor support when needed for break coverage in Produce and the Front End, as well as supporting the Cashier team with front-end coverage during busy rushes.

You will ensure a fresh and appealing display by keeping cases and shelves clean and well stocked by front-facing, checking codes, rotating, and removing out-of-date products in both the Produce and Floral departments. We encourage a team mentality at Luke’s, and as such, all staff often assist each other based on the demands of the day. Having a positive attitude, team mentality, and eagerness to learn is a must.

You will also support the Produce Supervisor by assisting with writing orders and placing orders as needed on their days off. In addition to your department responsibilities, you oversee the following:

  • Work with the Produce Supervisor to ensure all merchandised Produce and Floral displays are designed and set up according to our aesthetic and company guidelines
  • Support the Produce Supervisor in purchasing for the Produce and Floral departments in your store on their days off
  • Monitor displays and spot check for spoilage. Ensure products are routinely FIFO-ed and waste is accurately tracked and reported
  • Oversee department checklists and protocols on a daily basis. Supervise Produce Clerks’ tasks and assist as necessary, including daily PIC check-ins with all staff
  • Working with the Produce Supervisor to distribute work evenly among all staff, assigning duties to specific employees based on role and skills
  • Maintain a clean and orderly space on the floor, in the walk-in, and in the back rooms according to Company protocols
  • Ensure excellent customer service and hospitality standards are upheld, from in-store shopping to the experience at checkout
  • Demonstrate consistent work attendance
  • Assist the Produce Supervisor in training new and current staff in the Produce department
  • Maintain Luke’s Local retail standards in terms of cleanliness, facing, stocking, tagging, and merchandising
  • Ensure food safety standards are being met at all times
  • Maintaining a positive, equitable work environment for all staff
  • Participate in mandatory quarterly department inventory counts
  • Communicate and collaborate with co-workers, supervisors, team members, and/or outside contacts in a timely and appropriate manner and in line with our Communication Code of Conduct

Work environment
  • Office and sales floor of retail grocery stores
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs
  • Must be able to spend 6-8 hours per day on your feet
  • Stooping, bending, lifting, standing for long periods of time, stretching, twisting, reaching, repetitive stocking motions, repetitive food prep motions.
  • Stocking of shelves and merchandising displays
  • Handling of refrigerated product in a cold environment for short periods of time.
