We operate four vibrant brick and mortar markets - one on Cole and Parnassus in the heart of Cole Valley, a second in Cow Hollow on Union St, a third on Green Street in North Beach and a fourth in the Inner Sunset on 9th Ave.

As a member of the Deli and Butcher Line team of Luke’s Local, you are responsible for providing excellent customer service from all departments on the line. Deli/Butcher Clerks are responsible for preparing breakfast items and sandwiches for our customers. They are also responsible for maintaining a clean, full, and aesthetically pleasing butcher case, and providing excellent service from the butcher counter.

We encourage a team mentality at Luke’s and as such all deli staff often assist each other based on the demands of the day. Flexibility to work weekends and holidays is a required component of this role;

all Deli/Butcher team members must be available to work at least one weekend day regularly.

• Preparing, packaging, weighing, and pricing meat department products for sale
• Setting and maintaining the deli/butcher case
• Prepping and assembling sandwiches
• Monitor product and check for expiration. Ensure products are routinely FIFO-ed and waste is accurately tracked and reported
• Providing an excellent and knowledgeable customer experience
• Ensure the customer’s checkout experience is friendly and efficient
• Demonstrate consistent work attendance
• Follow all department checklists and task lists each day, ensuring all cleaning, prep, and other assigned tasks are completed on time and accurately
• Shutting down the deli/butcher station according to Company protocol
• Knowledge and implementation of safe food handling procedures
• Unload and stock merchandise for the Deli/Butcher team
• Maintaining a positive, equitable work environment for all staff
• Communicate and collaborate with co-workers, supervisors, and/or outside contacts in a timely and appropriate manner and in line with our Communication Code of Conduct, especially during service and regarding inventory levels of ingredients and packaging
• Creative thinker
• Ability to safely prepare and serve food of high quality

Sales floor & service line of retail grocery stores

• Must be able to spend 6-8 hours per day on your feet
• Stooping, bending, lifting, standing for long periods of time, stretching, twisting, reaching, repetitive stocking motions, repetitive food prep motions.
• Must be able to lift and carry 50 lb cases of meat or other food products repeatedly
• Handling of refrigerated product in a cold environment for extended periods of time.

• Experience with retail, preferably grocery
• Experience with food preparation, service, and safety
• Experience with customer service

Required education and experience

Food Handler’s Certificate

• Must be 18 years or older
