Junior Specialist – Department of Surgery

Division of Transplant Surgery, University of California, San Francisco.

The Division of Transplant Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco is seeking to fill a Junior Specialist position. The position is intended for an individual with a strong interest in synthesizing, analyzing, presenting, and publishing study findings. This position will report to the Clinical Research Supervisor and work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Dr.

John Roberts.

Responsibilities
  • Collecting data from operative notes, creating data visualizations of UNOS, OPTN, and internal databases, and participating in the review and writing of protocols to ensure institutional review board approval within University compliance.
  • Working closely with the Principal Investigator to support the management and coordination of tasks of multiple liver transplant research studies, acting as an intermediary between the research team, physicians, and collaborators while overseeing data collection and management.
  • Creating, cleaning, updating, and managing comprehensive datasets and reports; utilizing Excel, Python, or other data visualization software to draw conclusions from external databases and internal study results.
  • Interacting with Spanish‑speaking patients (preferred if fluent in Spanish).
Qualifications
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Box and Windows; effective oral and written communication, good organizational and interpersonal skills, and excellent analytical thinking.
  • Ability to multitask in a deadline‑oriented environment.
  • Strong interest in surgery, especially abdominal transplant.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in biology, biochemistry, biophysics or a related field, or at least 4 years of laboratory experience, at the time of hire. Applicants’ materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.
  • Experience, teaching, research, and community service that prepares the candidate to contribute to UCSF’s commitment to excellence.
  • Preferred fluency in Spanish.
Benefits & Salary

See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $55,000 - $58,600.
