Faculty Position – Epidemiology Assistant or Associate Professor
The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics (DEB) at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) invites applications for a full‑time faculty position in the Adjunct or In‑Residence series at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank from applicants with expertise in the methods of clinical epidemiology.
UCSF is a leading biomedical research institution, and the DEB serves as the campus’s hub for expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics, and health‑related data science. The DEB teaches a broad spectrum of learners, supports faculty research in methods development or applied topics, and encourages collaboration with clinicians and external researchers.
Responsibilities• Lead an independent, extramurally funded research program.
• Participate in formal instruction to professional and graduate students in epidemiologic research methods.
• Provide project‑specific and career mentoring to trainees at all levels.
• Contribute to departmental and university service.
- A doctorate‑level professional degree in medicine, pharmacy, nursing, or equivalent clinical experience.
- Graduate‑level training in epidemiology, public health, informatics, or a closely related field.
- Expertise, with a publication record, in contemporary predictive analytics applied to clinical decision‑making and healthcare delivery (e.g., diagnostic test development, multi‑feature prediction rules, machine learning, and assessment of test utility).
- Strong interest and experience teaching predictive analytics in both formal and informal settings, including to audiences without extensive mathematical backgrounds.
- Record of achievement in applied research related to predictive analytics; for Associate‑level applicants, evidence of extramural funding.
- Experience with electronic medical record‑based informatics and/or research.
- Familiarity with modern causal inference methods.
For positions 51% effort or more, the minimum base salary range is $121,900–$189,500, determined by rank and step under UC salary scales. The position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan, which allows for additional compensation.
For positions 50% effort or less, the salary range is approximately $93,700–$145,700.
