Part-Time Monitoring and Research Position

This is a part-time, one year position (with the possibility for extension) for a candidate who will support diverse monitoring and research activities undertaken by the RMP and other Clean Water projects. We are looking for someone who can start immediately. The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in a pertinent scientific field and experience with fieldwork. They must be able to: (1) coordinate, prepare for, and participate in fieldwork, including stormwater and other types of monitoring;

(2) collect, review, and synthesize scientific data and information from various sources; and (3) work well in teams as well as independently with general direction from senior scientific staff.

Primary position responsibilities will include:

  • Participate in fieldwork, including stormwater and other types of monitoring; can be rigorous/demanding during wet conditions and any time of day or night (weekends also), and requires someone with some flexibility in their schedule
  • Occasionally lifting or carrying heavy field equipment or supplies for short durations
  • Stormwater monitoring coordination; preparing supplies and field kits, field sampling, post sampling processing, shipping samples, coordinating with data services on field data
  • Other monitoring coordination: coordinating with analytical labs, preparing supplies, scheduling field days with external sampling partners, sampling, processing samples, shipping samples, and following up with labs
  • Assisting with developing contracts, coordinating with analytical labs, and updating websites
  • Develop maps and schematics for presentations and reports
  • Develop slides for presentations
  • Assisting with analyzing and synthesizing data
  • Assisting with operations tasks for the stormwater program (e.g. task management, and coordination with external collaborators)
  • This position requires in-office and/or in-person presence approximately 4 days per week for lab and fieldwork. Fieldwork may include multiple long field days per month in varying weather conditions

Qualifications

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, civil/environmental engineering, geology, ecology, oceanography, chemistry, biology, or another related scientific field
  • Experience working in the field can be coursework related

Required Skills

  • Familiarity with environmental science, particularly fieldwork, coordination, and data analysis
  • This position requires participating in fieldwork during storm events (may include early mornings, late nights, overnights, or weekends)
  • Excellent communication, organization, attention to detail, and ability to synthesize information
  • Ability to work well in teams and independently with general direction from senior scientific staff
  • Valid Driver's License

Preferred Skills

  • Database experience, setting up and working with Microsoft Access
  • Experience with GIS would be considered an asset

Salary:
This will be an Environmental Analyst I or II position. The anticipated hourly rate for part-time employment is $37.69-$41.21/hour for this position. There are many factors taken into account for making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, education, internal equity, and organizational needs. We expect to offer starting salaries at or near the lower end of the pay range.
