Airfield Safety Officer – Airside Operations
City and County of San Francisco – San Francisco, CA. Temporary‑Exempt (TEX) appointment for up to three (3) years. Compensation: $114,114 – $138,684.

The Airfield Safety Officer conducts patrols, inspections, and investigations to enforce the Airport Security Program and ensure compliance with Federal, Airport, and Transportation Security regulations. The role requires monitoring airfield operations, responding to incidents, and providing training and safety support.
Key Responsibilities- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of safety and/or security operations experience at an airport, airbase, airline, or military base, including at least six (6) months of recent airfield operations experience.
- Valid California Class C driver’s license prior to employment.
- Valid TSA security clearance and Customs Access Seal.
- Successful completion of a medical examination confirming the ability to perform essential functions.
- Associate’s degree in Aviation Management or related field substitutes for one (1) year of required experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management or related field substitutes for two (2) years of required experience.
- Completion of a six (6) month Airside Operations Training Program substitutes for the required six (6) months of recent airfield operations experience.
- In‑depth knowledge of CFR Part 139, Part 77, and FAA Advisory Circulars 150 series.
- Working knowledge of CFR Part 1542.
- Expert-level aviation phraseology and public safety communications, including two‑way radio operation with FAA Air Traffic Control and dispatch.
- First‑responder experience on an airfield.
- Knowledge of FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS).
- Pilot’s certificate.
- Experience at commercial, domestic, regional, or international airports.
- Excellent oral and written communication and report‑writing skills.
- AAAE Airport Certified Employee – Operations or ACE Security.
