Job Description
Public Safety Ambassadors, also known as security officers, protect and guard UCSF property; maintain order among the public and UCSF community; monitor and control entry to restricted areas; inspect areas to prevent fires, accidents, and other hazards; direct visitors and answer questions concerning building and/or exhibit layouts; and perform other related duties as required.
CompensationThe hourly range for this position is $24.97 - $29.87. A new hire sign-on bonus of $500 is offered to those who have not been employed with a UC in the last 12 months. Salary placement is based on experience and internal equity; labor union positions are guided by the collective bargaining agreement. ResponsibilitiesAs a Public Safety Ambassador, you will:
- Protect and guard university property.
- Maintain order among the public and UCSF community.
- Monitor and control access to restricted areas.
- Inspect areas to prevent fires, accidents, and hazards.
- Direct visitors and answer questions regarding building and exhibit layouts.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid California Driver’s License.
- Excellent customer service and effective problem‑solving skills; fluent in English.
- Ability to stay calm under stress, make sound judgments, and respond to emergencies.
- Excellent attendance and reliability record.
- Physical ability to bend, squat, climb stairs, push/pull up to 25 lb, reach above shoulder, sit and stand for extended periods, lift 21‑30 lb, and run short distances.
- General PC knowledge and proficiency using MS Office.
- Current CPR, Basic First Aid, CPI de‑escalation, AED, and Clery training (within 6 months of hire).
- Ability to work variable hours and days, onsite in San Francisco.
Preferred Qualifications
- One or more years of experience in the security field.
- Military experience.
- Valid California Guard Card.
