The Building Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for tenants, employees, and visitors within the facility. This role involves monitoring building access, patrolling premises, responding to incidents, and enforcing safety and security policies. The ideal candidate is alert, professional, and able to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor entrances, exits, and common areas to control building access and prevent unauthorized entry
  • Conduct regular foot patrols of the interior and exterior of the building, including stairwells, parking areas, and loading docks
  • Monitor CCTV systems, alarm panels, and access control systems; respond promptly to alerts or irregularities
  • Check identification and issue visitor badges in accordance with building policy
  • Respond to emergencies, including medical incidents, fires, and security breaches, and coordinate with police, fire, or EMS as needed
  • Write clear, accurate incident reports and maintain daily activity logs
  • Enforce building policies related to parking, deliveries, after-hours access, and tenant/visitor conduct
  • Assist with evacuation procedures and emergency drills
  • Inspect fire extinguishers, exit signs, and emergency lighting for basic operability and report deficiencies
  • Provide courteous, professional assistance to tenants, employees, and guests
  • Escort personnel or visitors as required (e.g., after hours, high-value deliveries)
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding security procedures, incidents, and building operations
  • Perform other duties as assigned by security leadership
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid state security guard license/certification (or ability to obtain prior to start date)
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in security, law enforcement, military, or related field preferred
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment during emergencies
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic proficiency with computers, radios, and security monitoring systems
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods (up to full shift)
  • Ability to climb stairs and walk long distances throughout the facility
  • Ability to lift up to 25–50 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, if applicable
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to monitor surveillance equipment and detect irregularities
Working Conditions
  • Uniform and/or company-issued equipment (radio, flashlight, badge) required while on duty
  • May be required to work in a fast-paced or high-stress environment during emergencies
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with commercial or high-rise building security
  • Familiarity with access control software and CCTV systems
  • Experience with incident reporting software
  • Bilingual communication skills a plus
