The Audio Visual Technician (as needed/on-call) provides assistance to the Audio Visual department during periods of peak workload or on special projects. The Audio Visual Technician (as needed/on-call) must be open to work on temporary assignments varying in the number of hours and days.
Essential functions:
- Set/operate/strike audio visual equipment including but not limited to audio mixers (analog and digital,) microphones, portable and installed sound systems, video cameras, fastfold screens, projection, video playback, lighting, setting risers
- Customer service and front-line demeanor is a responsibility of the Audiovisual Technician. The technician represents the museum during public programs, lectures, meetings, special and rental events.
- Provides technical assistance to performance groups through careful audio mixing, use of stage monitors and microphone selection and placement. Understanding of digital video editing, computer software, programs and devices that performing artists may utilize is a plus.
- Must possess the ability to assist clients with computers and presentation software, such as PowerPoint, Keynote, VLC, Quick Time and virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom, Facetime, Web Ex and Streamyard.
- Act as technical coordinator for Zoom, Streamyard and other online platforms on an assigned basis. This supports Public Programs, Members Special events, etc.
- Assist the AV Manager and the Digital Team in the maintenance and troubleshooting of digital displays in non-gallery public areas and a limited number of exhibition interactive displays.
- Maintains safety of staff, patrons, and other guests in all audiovisual installations; works closely with supervisor, event staff, engineering, security, and outside contractors to ensure compliance with established event guidelines and appropriate use of the facility.
- Assist staff with technical support, if possible, resolving the issue or documenting it and reporting it to fulltime IT staff.
- Verifies that equipment is in good working order prior to each event; making spot repairs as needed, pulling & identifying faulty gear for inspection and repair.
- Returns and stores equipment in assigned locations; makes improvements to storage and recycling of equipment, in conjunction with supervisor. Assists with inventory control and inspection.
