Master Technician/Tech A
This role is for one of the fastest growing companies partnered as a vendor for Waymo Automated Vehicles in San Francisco, CA. In this role, the Master Technician will perform expert-level diagnostics, maintenance, and repair on electric, hybrid, and conventional vehicles in a high-quality service environment. This role focuses on electric vehicle systems, applying advanced technical knowledge, OEM and ASE certifications, and strong troubleshooting skills to ensure vehicles operate safely and reliably.
The technician will work from detailed repair orders, collaborate closely with parts and shop personnel, and provide mentorship to other technicians while maintaining high standards of accuracy, efficiency, and documentation.
Responsibilities
- Perform complex repair and maintenance work on electric, hybrid, and regular vehicles with a strong emphasis on electric vehicle systems.
- Complete all work as outlined on repair orders with a high level of efficiency and accuracy, following established company and manufacturer standards.
- Diagnose causes of malfunctions using electrical schematics, diagnostic equipment, and technical documentation to identify and resolve issues effectively.
- Communicate with the parts department to identify, request, and obtain all necessary parts for repair and maintenance tasks.
- Save and tag parts from repair jobs when required for warranty purposes or when requested by the technical team, ensuring proper documentation and handling.
- Thoroughly examine assigned vehicles to determine if additional safety or service work is required or recommended beyond the initial repair order.
- Notify the shop foreman promptly when additional work is needed, when work originally outlined is not required, or when repairs cannot be completed within the promised timeframe.
- Document all work performed and any recommended services clearly and completely on the work order for accurate recordkeeping and customer communication.
- Road test vehicles when required to verify proper operation after repairs or coordinate with the shop foreman to complete road tests as needed.
- Stay current with manufacturer technical bulletins, recalls, and updates related to electric, hybrid, and conventional vehicles, and apply this information in daily work.
- Supervise and guide other technicians, providing training, mentorship, and support on maintenance processes, diagnostic methods, and repair protocols.
- Train newer technicians on maintenance procedures, safety practices, and shop protocols to ensure consistent quality and adherence to standards.
- Maintain accountability for all company-owned tools, equipment, and manuals, ensuring they are used properly, cared for, and returned to their designated locations in good condition.
- Interact professionally with customers when needed, presenting a knowledgeable and approachable demeanor that reflects positively on the service operation.
- Work flexible hours, including weekends and overnight shifts, to support 24/7 coverage in the service shop and meet operational needs.
Essential Skills
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience working with electric vehicles (EV), including diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of high-voltage systems.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as an automotive mechanic or technician working on a range of vehicle types and systems.
- Master-level technician expertise with advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic vehicle systems.
- Electric Vehicle certification from ASE or an original equipment manufacturer (OEM). (Not Required, but a bonus)
- A minimum of 4 ASE certifications and the willingness and ability to obtain the remaining ASE certifications within 1 year. (Not Required, but a bonus)
- Strong mechanical skills, including experience with engines, drive trains, braking systems, and general automotive components.
- Advanced electrical troubleshooting skills, including the ability to interpret wiring diagrams, diagnose electrical faults, and repair circuits.
- Proficiency in electrical wiring, fuses, and related EV electrical components and systems.
