Job Description

Under the supervision of the Fire & Life Safety Systems Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for Campus Fire Alarm Systems installations, programming, operation, maintenance, inspection, testing, Fireworks monitoring networks, other system connection and inventory. The incumbent inspects in-progress construction work and performs final inspections to ensure all work performed complies with applicable codes.

Under the supervision of the Fire & Life Safety Systems Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for Campus Fire Alarm Systems installations, programming, operation, maintenance, inspection, testing, Fireworks monitoring networks, other system connection and inventory. The incumbent inspects in-progress construction work and performs final inspections to ensure all work performed complies with applicable codes.
The UCSF Facilities Services Department (FS) is committed to creating an exceptional campus physical environment to support the research, teaching, health care, and community service mission of the University. FS employs over 460 professional staff and acts as a steward for over $100 million in operating funds to achieve its goals in operating and maintaining the UCSF campus environment. FS is organized into 7 operating units: (1) West Campus/Parnassus Operations, (2) East Campus/Mission Bay Operations, (3) Engineering & Utilities, (4) Facilities Projects (5) Business Operations Service Center, (6) Custodial Services, and (7) Office of the AVC, including Administration & Communications.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of experience installing, programming, maintaining, and/or troubleshooting complex addressable, networked commercial or institutional fire alarm systems, such as Edwards EST3/EST4 or equivalent systems.
  • Demonstrated theoretical and working knowledge of electricity, electronics, and electronic and computerized fire alarm system design and operation.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot fire alarm system failures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or ability to obtain manufacturers certification on the following systems:
    Edwards Systems Technology panels and networked fire alarm systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and fire system schematics.
  • Working knowledge of applicable building and safety codes.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, with contractors, consultants, customers, and staff.
  • Background check required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with fire alarm systems in university, healthcare, or similarly complex institutional environments.
  • Edwards/EST manufacturer certification or training.
  • Understanding of EST Fireworks stations networking with fiber optics.
  • Experience with EST Fire Works monitoring stations and networked fire alarm systems.
  • NICET Level II or higher Fire Alarm Systems certification.
  • Experience installing, programming, maintaining, or troubleshooting Edwards EST3 fire alarm systems.
  • Possess a valid CA Driver's License.
