The Community Youth Center of San Francisco (CYC) provides the youth of our city with a sense of belonging and vital tools and experiences to succeed in life. Our services include academic support and college counseling, job placement and employment training, substance use and violence prevention education, crisis intervention and mediation, leadership development, technology and computer training. Title: School Violence Interrupter

Salary: $28.00 - $32.00 per hour plus benefits

Reports to: Program Director

Status: Full Time, (40 hours/week), Non-Exempt

PROGRAM SUMMARY

The School Violence Interrupters, along with the API Community Resources Network, is responsible for addressing behavioral disruptions and incidents of violence on school campuses through linguistic or culturally competent programs and holistic services. This includes establishing relationships with stakeholders to facilitate effective reporting systems for service linkage, immediate intervention, and conflict mediation in response to incidents of violence involving the AAPI community and within the school communities.

This initiative will be a collaborative effort between DCYF, SFUSD, the Juvenile Justice Department, and other community-based organizations, such as YCD, SCDC, and YMCA OMI Beacon, to provide comprehensive crisis support services.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The CYC’s School Violence Interrupter is tasked with forming initial contact with the youth at schools and in our community prior to making further contact with family and/or caretakers to understand the context and assess the needs of our clients. In partnership with the internal behavioral health staff, the School Violence Interrupter will make proper referrals to connect in-needs youth clients to our behavioral health and intervention services for counseling work, case management services, and assessment for recommendation to internal services or community resources based on their diverse needs.

DUTIES

AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct regular outreach services in schools and on the streets to increase the program's visibility and strengthen community relationships in high-need neighborhoods within San Francisco, including Chinatown, Visitacion Valley, Bayview, and Tenderloin, as well as among communities of color.
  • Offer holistic and culturally competent services to victims of crime and their families, prioritizing their healing to foster physical and mental well-being, support for daily necessities, housing, employment, etc.
  • Work in conjunction with other CYC programs and other community service providers to provide effective and comprehensive services.
  • Provide mediation in response to community conflicts and facilitate meetings as the intervention strategy to facilitate a safe and effective reintegration process.
  • Organize cross-cultural training with color organizations centering on addressing interracial tension and identifying approaches to promote healing and racial solidarity.
  • Participate in required training, team meetings, and community meetings as necessary.
  • Foster cooperative relationships with law enforcement, parents and families, collaborative agencies, and other service providers.
  • Maintain accurate documentation on case notes and statistics on committed service for progress monitoring and the production of monthly reports for granting agencies.
  • Assist in coordinating events, activities, and projects aimed at promoting violence prevention and reduction within the AAPI community.
  • Other duties as assigned by the management team.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in social services or related areas or a Minimum of two years of experience conducting street outreach, conflict mediation, and crisis response.
  • Experience working with San Francisco’s diverse communities and neighborhoods.
  • Knowledge of the San Francisco Criminal Justice System, familiarity with community-based organizations within the city, and understanding of the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) system.
