Housing And Resource Navigator

Openhouse was founded in 1998 to empower Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) older adults to overcome the unique challenges they face as they age by providing welcoming housing, resources, high-impact direct services, and innovative community programs. As a result, Openhouse reduces isolation and empowers LGBTQIA2S++ older adults to improve their overall health, well-being, and economic security. We are dynamic and entrepreneurial on the leading edge of the growing field of aging services for LGBTQIA2S++ elders at the local, state, and national levels.

Openhouse believes in manifesting opportunities with, and not just for, LGBTQIA2S++ older adults to build and reconnect with community by providing housing, direct services, and community programs.

Openhouse is committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace. We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, including but not limited to candidates who identify as women, people of color, members of the LGBTQIA2S++ community, and individuals across the gender spectrum. We recognize that systemic inequities may discourage some candidates from applying unless they meet every qualification listed. If you believe your skills and experiences align with the role and you are passionate about our mission, we encourage you to apply.

We value the unique perspectives and talents that each individual brings to our organization. Openhouse is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate based on any characteristics protected by law.

The Housing and Resource Navigator (HRN) ensures compliance with City and County of San Francisco funding requirements, including contracts with the Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD) and the Department of Disability and Aging Services (DAS). The Manager ensures timely service delivery, accurate documentation, and alignment with grant deliverables, while supporting program evaluation and continuous improvement.

The HRN is responsible for Openhouse's housing navigation and resource referral services for LGBTQ+ older adults and adults with disabilities. This role manages data collection and input from housing navigation intakes, housing action plans, and follow-up calls into internal and external databases.

The Housing and Resource Navigator collaborates with the Housing and Resource Navigation Team, Community Support Services staff, and external partners to ensure contract deliverables are met.

They provide trauma-informed housing counseling during a four-hour drop-in clinic every Tuesday.

In one-to-one housing counseling sessions, the HRN provides an overview of housing availability, review screening criteria for affordable housing, including income eligibility requirements, credit check, and criminal background check. The HRN advocates, as needed, directly with landlords, property management, and housing agencies on behalf of community members; or identifies appropriate advocacy services such as Tenant's Rights, Eviction Defense Collaborative, or other legal resources.
