Senior Nature-based Wellness Coach-(Two openings)- this is a part-time (20 hours), non-exempt position, hybrid (remote, community, office) located at our Vicente campus in San Francisco.

Program Summary

Roots to Rise offers nature-based prevention and early intervention services that empower youth (ages 825) to build resilience and life skills. We incorporate psycho-emotional and neuro-developmental frameworks to connect youth to resilient outcomes through immersive experiences that leverage the restorative power of nature. Through trauma-informed 1:1 mentoring and small group experiences in parks, gardens, and natural spaces across the Bay Area, participants strengthen emotional regulation, self-esteem, stress management, and relational skills.

Programs are facilitated by clinically supervised wellness coaches using evidence-based frameworks and nature immersion to promote access, engagement, and equity in youth mental and emotional wellness.

Position Description

The Senior Coach provides direct mentorship and facilitation for youth participating in the nature-based program while also supporting implementation and team development. This role combines direct service, safety oversight, documentation, and peer mentorship to help ensure consistent, high-quality programming.

Nature-Based Wellness Coaches deliver nature-based wellness services to youth participants in outdoor environments across the Bay Area. In alignment with Roots to Rise curriculum and clinical guidance, and with support of an interdisciplinary team devoted to holistic youth well-being, the coach is responsible for planning and facilitating individual and small group outdoor sessions that promote emotional regulation, resilience, skill-building, and connection to nature.

The role requires consistent, professional engagement with youth, families, and colleagues; adherence to trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices; and compliance with all safety, documentation, and program standards. Participation in Forest Therapy and Neuro-Somatic training will be required prior to beginning client services.

Essential Functions
  • Plan and facilitate individual and group nature-based wellness sessions in outdoor and community settings that support emotional regulation, resilience, and pro-social skills.
  • Build supportive relationships with youth and help implement individualized well-being plans.
  • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of participants during all program activities, including implementing risk management practices and adhering to agency policies and procedures.
  • Transport and accompany youth safely to program locations.
  • Support intake, onboarding, and orientation for new participants.
  • Mentor junior staff and model effective facilitation, youth engagement, and professionalism.
  • Collaborate with program and clinical leadership to support participant needs and program quality.
  • Provide consultation to interdisciplinary teams (clinical, educational, family support) regarding nature-based strategies that can enhance youth engagement, regulation, and overall well-being.
  • Support family engagement and care coordination by sharing program updates and offering resources related to nature-based wellness.
  • Coordinate logistics for outdoor sessions (scheduling, route/activity planning, gear/equipment preparation, weather-related contingencies) to support smooth and reliable program delivery.
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation, including session notes, assessments, client surveys, incident reports, and required compliance forms, in accordance with agency standards.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with youth, caregivers, community partners, and colleagues, demonstrating trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and identity-affirming practice.
  • Participate in required training, supervision, and team meetings to support ongoing professional development, program fidelity, and quality improvement.
