Senior Product Engineer, Full Stack

Our product engineering teams build and operate the systems that connect OpenAI's research to real-world use. This includes the OpenAI API, ChatGPT, enterprise offerings, and platform services that support secure, compliant, high‑quality experiences  work across engineering, product, design, research, infrastructure, safety, and go‑to‑market teams to help users and organizations apply AI to meaningful work.

We are looking for full stack product engineers to build end‑to‑end product experiences across OpenAI's customer, developer, and internal platform surfaces. This role spans frontend interfaces, backend services, data models, product integrations, and the systems that connect them.

You will push the boundaries of OpenAI's newest technologies to create workflows and interactions that are useful, reliable, and delightful for people and organizations. We value proactive, product‑minded engineers who can see the big picture while staying close to the details that define great products.

• Own the end‑to‑end development lifecycle for new product capabilities across frontend, backend, data, and integration layers.
• Partner closely with product, design, research, infrastructure, safety, and customer‑facing teams to understand user needs and ship effective solutions.
• Build polished product experiences backed by scalable services, thoughtful data models, and reliable production operations.
• Translate emerging model capabilities into practical product workflows for developers, teams, and organizations.
• Balance speed, product quality, safety, and long‑term maintainability as OpenAI's product surface evolves.

• 7+ years of professional engineering experience, excluding internships, in relevant roles at technology and product‑driven companies.
• Proficiency with Type Script, React, and modern web technologies.
• Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Python, Go, Rust, Type Script, or similar, plus comfort with distributed systems concepts.
• Experience with relational databases such as Postgres or MySQL.
• Strong product judgment, customer empathy, and a track record of shipping user‑facing products from idea to production.
• Care deeply about reliability, safety, security, performance, and quality in production environments.
• Interest in AI/ML; direct AI/ML experience is helpful but not required.
• Proven ability to navigate loosely defined work, manage competing priorities, and make sound technical tradeoffs in a fast‑moving environment.
• Former founder or early engineer experience building a product from scratch is a plus.
