Senior Backend Engineer

Spherecast is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to build the backbone for Agnes, our AI Supply Chain Manager that plans and executes how consumer goods are produced and moved globally. You’ll join a fast‑paced engineering team in San Francisco to own backend systems end-to-end and turn the physical flow of goods into programmable, reliable systems that scale.

• Design and implement backend systems that power Agnes’ supply‑chain decisions.
• Architect data models and pipelines to ingest and organize messy, real‑world data.
• Ensure user requests and plans are processed in real time for reliable execution.
• Build scalable, high‑performance SQL queries and data access patterns for large datasets.
• Ship production‑grade services using modern backend frameworks and testing practices.
• Collaborate closely with the core product and engineering team to translate logistics into software.
• Operate and improve deployment and runbook processes to keep systems running 24/7.

• Proven ability to own backend systems end-to-end, from data architecture to real‑time request processing.
• Strong experience with Python and modern backend frameworks (e.g., FastAPI) and testing tools such as pytest.
• Track record of shipping real products and building full‑stack applications that include backend design.
• Proficiency in SQL and writing high‑performance queries over millions of data points.
• Solid system design skills and experience designing data architectures that scale with minimal supervision.
• Experience with unstructured data ingestion systems, Dev Ops practices, and AWS.
• Practical, builder mindset comfortable choosing the right engineering tools and parallelizing services for continuous operation.
