Lumafield was founded in 2019 to upgrade manufacturing.

We are engineers with deep experience across the product development cycle, from initial ideas to shipping hardware, across industries and specializations, who became frustrated by the cost and complexity of modern manufacturing. So we decided to upgrade it.

We started with industrial CT scanning, which for us was the most valuable but underutilized tool in the manufacturing toolbox, enabling us to rapidly inspect essential components non-destructively.

We rebuilt the whole system, from X-ray capture, to computer vision analysis, to web-based collaboration, to the entire business model, making the most advanced manufacturing tech more accessible to every industry. Lumafield is headquartered in Cambridge, MA, and has an office in San Francisco, CA.

On Lumafield’s Backend team, you work on the core of our cloud platform from REST APIs through to massively parallelized data processing pipelines operating on our X-Ray and CT image data. We leverage Python in order to move quickly but ensure that we’re getting the most out of the language through usage of powerful frameworks and parallelism concepts. Our backend team also owns their code all the way through deployment;

you’ll work to build your code into Docker containers and deploy them to our different environments including cloud Kubernetes clusters and on-premises servers.

• Use Python, Django and Django Rest Framework (DRF) to implement cloud backend APIs
• Use Python, Django, and Celery to implement highly parallelized large dataset processing tasks ranging up to 100s of GBs of data
• Design for and deploy your code to our AWS environment leveraging EKS, S3, Cloud Front, and other AWS technologies
• Work closely with our research and algorithms team to incorporate cutting edge algorithms into our production codebases
• Collaborate closely with product managers and engineering leadership to align technical objectives with business deliverables
• Get your hands dirty and build – expect to be hands‑on and building regularly

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field
• 2+ years of experience with Python in a production backend setting using major web frameworks (Flask, Django, FastAPI, etc.)
• Experience with large dataset processing using numpy
• Strong software engineering fundamentals including git, unit testing, pull request reviews, module/interface design, and applications using parallelism and concurrency
• Strong team collaboration, communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience with Linux server administration, network troubleshooting, docker deployments, product ionizing systems
• Experience with Agile Development practices
• Experience with AWS including EKS, S3, Cloud Front, or similar
• Experience with image processing pipelines and/or image acquisition
• Experience in configuring Linux systems, applying best practices, and automating workflows with Ansible and scripting

$125,000 - $150,000 per year
