We’re looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join our Core Engineering Team
, which powers some of the most essential experiences at Scribe: document viewing and editing, embedding and exporting content, and supporting key integrations. Millions of users rely on these workflows every day.
In this role, you ll deliver well-scoped backend work across our core document features, growing your technical judgment alongside an experienced team. You ll learn our systems, contribute high-quality code, and partner with engineers, PMs, and designers to ship reliable product experiences.
What You’ll Do
- Build and ship backend features in our Django monolith, spanning core document workflows (viewing, editing, embeds, exports) as well as new greenfield projects that expand what Scribe can do
- Improve performance and reliability by optimizing database queries, endpoints, and caching layers in well-scoped areas
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to deliver intuitive and reliable experiences at scale
- Incorporate feedback from teammates to continuously grow your craft
- Write thoughtful code reviews, solid tests, and pay attention to observability and performance in your work
- You have 3+ years of experience building backend applications
- You have solid experience with Python
- You can optimize endpoint performance and database queries in code you own
- You’re a strong advocate for automated testing
- You re familiar with engineering best practices and eager to deepen them
- You’re user-centric, empathetic, and passionate about your work
- Experience with Django (not required, but a big plus)
- Startup experience (not required, but we build and move fast!)

$140,000 - $165,000 base + Equity + Benefits.
