Software Engineer, Cloud Engineer - Software
We’re looking for a curious, rigorous, problem-hungry platform engineer (who codes!) to carry the ball as we bring Ashby to the big leagues. Ashby builds software that lets talent teams build an efficient, delightful, respectful hiring process. Similarly, you’re an engineer who wants to build a paved road that excellent engineering teams can safely take to the moon and back.
Our customers include Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake. We have tens of millions in ARR, >100% year‑over‑year growth, over 2500 customers, very low churn, and many years of runway.
About the Role and How We WorkHi – I’m Colin, Head of EMEA Engineering. I’ve led engineering teams in startups and value infrastructure engineers. As a Platform Engineer at Ashby, you’ll dive into scaling problems, add new capabilities, and design how our team interacts with infrastructure. You will own projects end‑to‑end, ship with minimal oversight, and handle personal and confidential data responsibly.
Responsibilities- Optimize our homegrown ultra‑dynamic recruiting DSL‑to‑SQL compiler and create tools to help developers do so
- Create automated guardrails for the security and privacy of our customer data
- Help our developers ship features fast through canary deploys, gradual rollouts, and feature flags, while keeping complexity manageable and reducing downtime
- Define SLOs in collaboration with business and engineering teams, and implement corresponding SLIs
- Ensure all communication with external services supports retries and circuit‑breakers
- Implement the infrastructure to support an event‑driven architecture and data warehouse
- You never stop. You obsess over a problem that doesn’t yet make sense and search every possibility.
- You don’t take shortcuts. You speak up for future users, edge cases, and doomsday designs, and see product engineers as allies.
- You care about your teammates, want to work with people who make you better, and will participate in interview panels to choose new colleagues.
- You have built infrastructure at a later stage than Ashby’s current stage, dealing with millions of data points and automating provisioning, monitoring, and release processes.
- You are a Swiss army knife—comfortable with infrastructure updates, security enforcement, database optimization, Kubernetes debugging, and reviewing code, even if it’s not your area of expertise.
- You want a manager to make the final call on technical decisions; you expect oversight rather than ownership.
- You hate SQL. You avoid data‑oriented tasks and performance tuning.
- You don’t want to code and will not review or submit changes.
- Your communication style is live meetings only; you’re not comfortable with asynchronous written communication.
- You have no experience delivering projects independently without project managers.
Type Script (frontend & backend), Node.js, React, Apollo Graph

- Unlimited PTO and the encouragement to take it
- Minimum of 12 weeks fully paid parental leave (longer outside the US)
- Generous equipment, software, and office furniture budget
- $100/month education budget with manager approval for conferences
- For US employees, top‑tier health insurance with 100% premium coverage; other countries receive high‑quality supplemental health insurance fully paid by us
