This role combines hands‑on technical leadership with team coordination responsibilities, ensuring effective execution, alignment, and delivery across multiple engineering disciplines. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping system integration strategies, driving technical direction, and fostering collaboration across engineering, testing, and program teams.
Working within a fast‑paced, highly collaborative environment, this individual will thrive on solving complex technical challenges, taking initiative, adapting to evolving priorities, and working across a broad range of disciplines to accelerate development and maintain program momentum.
Responsibilities- Lead the architecture, development, and deployment of embedded flight software and advanced onboard computing systems for next-generation aircraft and autonomous platforms.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentorship to a high-performing multidisciplinary engineering team spanning embedded software, avionics, and electrical systems.
- Own key technical decisions, driving software architecture, technology selection, development processes, and critical trade studies to ensure scalable and reliable solutions.
- Partner closely with Flight Controls, GNC, Flight Test, Aerodynamics, Hardware, and Program teams to deliver major milestones, accelerate vehicle integration, and support successful flight operations.
- Remain hands‑on in software development, contributing to system architecture, code reviews, and implementation while enabling the team to deliver high-quality, safety‑critical software.
- Define and lead the verification and validation strategy for embedded systems, including automated testing, Software‑in‑the‑Loop (SIL), Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL), and end‑to‑end integration testing frameworks.
- Champion engineering excellence through robust development practices, continuous improvement initiatives, and a strong focus on system reliability, performance, and safety.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace, Robotics, or a related technical discipline with 8+ years of relevant industry experience, or a Master's degree with 6+ years of experience.
- Demonstrated success leading engineering teams while remaining hands‑on with system architecture, software development, and technical problem-solving.
- Deep expertise in real‑time and safety‑critical embedded software development for aerospace, autonomous systems, robotics, automotive, or similarly demanding environments.
- Experience designing, developing, and integrating high-performance compute platforms and embedded processing solutions tailored to mission requirements.
- Strong experience working with hardened and real‑time Linux-based systems.
- Expert proficiency in C++, Python, and modern software development practices, including version control using Git.
- Proven track record of delivering complex, multidisciplinary products from concept through certification, deployment, and commercialisation.
- Strong systems‑thinking mindset with the ability to navigate technical trade‑offs, manage competing priorities, and drive execution in a fast‑paced development environment.
