Job Overview
We’re looking for a frontend-focused engineer to join our Social Experience team. We hire engineers to solve real user problems, not implement specs. You will be instrumental in discovering, developing, and refining the client-side features that enhance how our users connect, interact, and discover content and communities together. This role involves working within the Unity engine and C# to build high‑quality, performant, and engaging user interfaces and systems.

What You’ll Do- Work within a full stack team to discover, develop, and maintain social features within the VRChat client using Unity/C#.
- Drive user growth with a focus on enhancing social systems, building the UI/UX for groups, events, and other social interaction features.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, data scientists, and other engineers across the stack to translate product and design vision into functional code through informed tradeoffs and estimates.
- Contribute to all stages of the feature lifecycle, from initial concept and prototyping to deployment and post‑launch iteration and maintenance.
- Identify and address performance bottlenecks and bugs to ensure a smooth and responsive user experience across various platforms.
- Help shape how the team works: driving toward collaborative, iterative, outcome‑focused, product‑discovery‑driven delivery.
- Advocate for the adoption and use of modern technologies and engineering practices to improve team effectiveness.
- Participate in code reviews to maintain a high bar for code quality, architectural integrity, performance, and reliability while spreading knowledge across the team.
- Track record of shipping consumer‑facing client features end‑to‑end, preferably in social gaming/platforms, or client‑side application development.
- Proficiency in C# and strong working knowledge of Unity and uGUI.
- Experience with client‑side development for social features, user interfaces, or similar consumer‑facing applications.
- Experience optimizing Unity projects for performance across various hardware, including standalone VR devices.
- Solid understanding of object‑oriented programming principles and software design patterns.
- Experience with CI/CD systems, A/B testing, AI tooling, and automated testing.
- Proven success improving user growth, user engagement, or user retention.
- An agile, collaborative, product mindset and excellent communication skills, capable of working effectively in a remote, cross‑functional team environment.
- Demonstrated interest in online communities, VR, or VRChat (as a user or creator).
- Experience facilitating team discussions, working agreements, and team process improvements.
- Comfort working full stack across the client and backend (ie Node.js)
- Familiarity with web technologies, particularly React or Express.
- Familiarity with API integration (REST/JSON) and Web Sockets.
- Experience developing native applications for iOS (Swift) or Android (Kotlin).
