Backend Developer, AI Engineer (Applied/Software), Python
Location:
San Francisco, CA (In-person, 5 days/week)
Compensation: $150,000-$280,000/year, plus competitive equity
This company is automating compliance for banks and fintechs using AI agents that work like human analysts, operating inside browsers, APIs, and internal systems to automate AML, KYC, KYB, and transaction monitoring end to end. The company has never lost a deal to a competitor, has won every RFP it has been part of, and works with banks and fintechs across the US, Canada, Europe, and Latin America.
This is a hands‑on, full‑stack technical seat for someone who wants to solve hard, unglamorous problems with real impact.
What You’ll Own- Architect agent behaviors, build backend systems, and optimize ML pipelines
- Ship product features end to end, often in the same week
- Build browser‑based AI agents that navigate complex, unstructured systems
- Work on distributed inference, queue orchestration, and self‑healing data pipelines on AWS
- Occasionally work directly with clients on deployments and integrations
- Strong backend software engineering experience, Python and AWS preferred
- Hands‑on experience deploying real systems to production
- High agency and low ego, comfortable solving hard problems without much process
- Strong communication skills, this role involves client interaction
- Comfortable working in person, 5 days a week, in San Francisco
- Experience with browser automation, computer vision, or ML in production
- Background in compliance, AML, KYC, or financial crime domains
- Active personal projects, open‑source contributions, or a strong Git Hub presence
- Prior experience as a founder or at an early‑stage startup
