Principal System Integration Engineer (Enterprise Systems), Oracle BPEL / SOA Integration (1064) – Department of Technology
- Full‑time position.
- Salary: $ – $ annually.

Department of Technology, 1 South Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94103 (hybrid schedule, at least 2 on‑site days per week).
- Design, develop, and maintain Oracle database objects (tables, views, complex SQL, PL/SQL procedures/packages) for the JUSTIS Data Exchange Hub.
- Develop and support integration workflows using Oracle BPEL and related SOA Suite components to implement business processes and data exchange patterns.
- Create database schemas that support business processes with emphasis on performance, data integrity, and maintainability.
- Support and troubleshoot integration solutions built on Oracle Web Logic and SOA Suite, diagnosing failures across multi‑system workflows.
- Design, develop, and maintain web services and integration interfaces for secure, reliable data exchange across justice partner systems (RESTful services with JSON and SOAP/XML where required).
- Develop reusable, testable server‑side components and integration services using Python, Java, and other relevant technologies.
- Support integrations that leverage middleware and messaging technologies such as ActiveMQ and Microsoft Message Queue to enable reliable and scalable data movement.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues related to database performance, middleware queues, and service reliability.
- Support development, test, and production environments for 24x7 mission‑critical operations across multiple partner agencies.
- Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, ensuring releases are well defined, repeatable, and operationally stable.
- Review, verify, and validate software code for adherence to quality, security, and maintainability standards.
- Develop and maintain unit and integration tests; support test planning and post‑deployment validation.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation (integration specifications, workflow documentation, runbooks, operational procedures).
- Communicate technical issues and solution options clearly to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Position may require moving computer equipment, hand‑eye coordination, and extensive VDT exposure.
- Associate degree in computer science or a closely related field (or equivalent of at least 60 semester credits with minimum 20 semester credits in computer science).
- Five years of experience in applications or software programming or development.
- Substitution available: an additional year of experience may be substituted for one semester unit (up to 2 years).
- Extensive experience developing and supporting enterprise‑scale applications or system integrations.
- Advanced expertise in Oracle databases (complex SQL, performance tuning, schema design, PL/SQL).
- In‑depth experience with Oracle integration technologies (BPEL, SOA Suite, Web Logic, JDeveloper, SQL Developer).
- Strong experience designing and supporting web services and integration interfaces using REST/JSON; working knowledge of SOAP/XML.
- Experience with middleware, messaging, and integration patterns (ActiveMQ, Microsoft Message Queue, event‑driven approaches).
- Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and modern Dev Ops practices.
- Strong unit testing, debugging, troubleshooting, and production support skills.
- Experience in regulated environments with sensitive or protected data; familiarity with CJIS requirements is desirable.
- Experience in Agile/Scrum or ITIL‑informed environments.
- Experience with scripting/automation (shell scripting) and strong technical documentation practices.
- Experience leveraging AI‑assisted development tools (Git Hub Copilot, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot).
- Proven ability to perform effectively in demanding, high‑availability operational environments.
- Demonstrated hands‑on experience applying foundational concepts in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a closely related field.
