Founding Engineer - Backend and Data

We are an early-stage Fintech + AI startup backed by seasoned investors from the financial and technology sectors. Our mission is to reinvent how users interact with modern financial tools by combining AI-driven intelligence with high-performance trading and investment infrastructure.

Role Overview

As a Founding Engineer with a focus on Backend and Data, you will be the core architect of our financial engine. You will design, build, and scale the robust server-side systems that power our trading infrastructure and data processing pipelines, ensuring high availability, latency, and security for our AI-driven financial tools.

What You’ll Do

• Backend Architecture: Design and implement scalable backend services, APIs, and data infrastructure to support complex trading and investment workflows.
• Data Engineering: Build high-performance data pipelines for real-time financial market data.
• Infrastructure: Architect and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS and GCP, ensuring reliability, security, and scalability.
• Engineering Excellence: Act as an "AI-native" engineer, leveraging AI coding agents to accelerate development while maintaining rigorous code quality standards.

Ideal Candidate

• Proficient in backend and data processing programming languages (Python, Type Script, C++, or Rust).
• Strong experience architecting and managing cloud infrastructure and microservices.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, database design, and high-concurrency environments.
• Bias for action, autonomy, and a track record of delivering "zero-to-one" products.

Nice to Have

• Experience training, evaluating, and deploying AI/ML models.
• Deep familiarity with trading systems and financial data architecture.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, or modern Dev Ops stacks.

Location

• Based in or open to relocating to San Francisco.
