Engineering Manager

Berkley Hunt is partnering with a fast-growing AI-native Insur Tech company that's redefining how insurance operations are automated through intelligent agents.

They're looking for a Head of AI Engineering to lead and scale their AI organization, owning both the technical vision and execution of production-grade AI systems. You'll remain deeply hands-on while building and growing a world-class engineering team focused on LLMs, agentic workflows, and AI infrastructure. What You'll Do

• Own and scale the AI Engineering organization, growing the team into three core functions:
• AI Infrastructure (routing, reliability, and platform)
• Agent Intelligence (evaluations, shared tooling, multimodal pipelines)
• Agentic Products (customer-facing AI assistants and long-running workflows)
• Define the technical strategy for building reliable, production-ready AI agents operating on real customer workflows
• Lead the architecture and development of scalable AI systems powered by modern LLMs and agentic frameworks
• Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of AI engineers as the organization grows
• Stay deeply hands-on with coding, architecture, and technical decision-making while setting a high engineering bar
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies and frameworks, bringing the best ideas into production
• Build highly reliable, observable, and scalable AI systems that can support mission-critical workloads

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience leading AI/ML engineering teams building production LLM and agent-based systems
• Deep hands-on expertise with agentic architectures, including tool use, planning, multi-agent orchestration, evaluations, and reliability
• Strong software engineering background with the ability to remain highly technical
• Demonstrated success recruiting, mentoring, and scaling engineering teams
• Experience designing and operating production AI infrastructure at scale
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence technical direction across the company
• Experience working in B2B SaaS or early-stage, high-growth startups is a plus
• A strong sense of ownership, urgency, grit, and execution
