Senior Software Engineer II, Search & Matching

• Enhance and optimize the search and matching experience within Spring Health’s Alma product

• Help clients find the right provider and begin their care journey quickly and seamlessly

• Design and build scalable, high-quality software across complex and ambiguous problem areas

• Lead technical design sessions and provide feedback in design forums and architectural reviews

• Use and evaluate AI tools, integrate AI into engineering workflows, and establish quality standards for AI-assisted engineering

• Decompose complex engineering problems into well-scoped solutions

• Coordinate cross-group efforts and communicate context and progress

• Identify and mitigate risks across projects

• Drive projects end-to-end from conception through deployment and iteration

• Conduct instructive code reviews and simplify and improve the codebase

• Mentor engineers on technical skills and career growth

• Lead hypercare investigations and high-stakes bug responses

• Design search and matching capabilities focused on relevance, performance, and search quality

• Make architectural decisions about service boundaries and evolving capabilities from the monolith

• Architect, build, and evolve backend services and APIs for Alma’s client search and matching experience, contributing across the full stack as needed

• 6–8+ years of professional software development experience
• Expertise in Python and Django for scalable backend services and APIs, with strong proficiency in React
• Proven experience designing, building, and scaling complex full-stack systems, emphasizing backend architecture and development
• Ability to use AI to reason about system-level tradeoffs and integrate AI tools into team workflows; critically evaluate output and help set quality standards
• Proven track record leading delivery of complex, multi-team technical projects
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and ability to influence and align stakeholders across teams
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers on technical skills and career growth
• Strong problem-solving skills focused on clean, scalable, maintainable architecture
• Well-designed tests accompanying all code
• Proven experience with distributed systems and microservices architecture, including service boundaries and evolving capabilities from a monolith
• Strong experience with data modeling and reliable data flows across services, including consistency, performance, and scalability tradeoffs
• Experience designing and optimizing search experiences and infrastructure, including indexing, relevance and ranking, query performance, and search quality at scale

Demonstrates expertise in Python and Django for backend services, with strong proficiency in React, while leading complex full-stack system designs and integrations of AI tools. Proven ability to mentor engineers and drive cross-functional collaboration to deliver scalable, high-quality software solutions.
