Job Description About the Team

The Logistics Technology team at Williams-Sonoma, Inc. builds and supports the platforms that move product across our supply chain — from distribution center operations and warehouse management to transportation and delivery for brands including Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, West Elm, and Rejuvenation. We partner closely with Supply Chain, Distribution Center operations, and third-party vendors to deliver scalable microservices that keep fulfillment fast, accurate, and cost-effective.

It is a hands‑on, high‑ownership team where engineers work end to end — designing systems, integrating with WMS and TMS platforms, and applying automation and AI to improve how our distribution network runs every day.

About

The Role

The Staff Software Engineer will be responsible for leading the design, development, and delivery of enterprise‑grade, scalable microservices applications supporting Logistics and Warehouse Management Systems. This role requires strong technical leadership, hands‑on development expertise, and close collaboration with cross‑functional business and technology teams, including third‑party vendors such as Manhattan Associates.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership for the Logistics domain — designing, developing, and leading delivery of scalable, enterprise‑grade microservices.
  • Drive hands‑on development of Java and Spring Boot services, RESTful APIs, and event‑driven integrations using Kafka.
  • Define and enforce engineering standards for secure coding, unit testing, Git branching strategy, and code quality.
  • Lead deployments and CI/CD automation on containerized platforms, including automated testing and release readiness.
  • Own application health in production — monitoring, alerting, incident triage, and root‑cause resolution.
  • Lead integrations across Warehouse Management, Transportation Management, Slotting, and Labor Management systems and Distribution Center operations.
  • Partner with business stakeholders and third‑party vendors such as Manhattan Associates to translate logistics requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Identify and deliver AI and automation opportunities that improve Logistics operations, production support, and business‑user productivity.
  • Drive Agile delivery — sprint planning, estimation, and delivery tracking — and mentor engineers to raise the bar across the team.
Criteria Experience
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years as a Java Lead.
  • Proven track record delivering enterprise-scale microservices applications in a retail, supply chain, or logistics environment.
  • Experience delivering in Agile environments using Jira for sprint planning, estimation, and delivery tracking.
Functional Expertise
  • Strong knowledge of logistics, warehouse management, and Distribution Center operations.
  • Hands‑on experience integrating with Manhattan WMOS, Transportation Management Systems, Manhattan Slotting, and Labor Management systems.
  • Experience leading third‑party vendor integrations, integration platforms, and enterprise web services.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to align technology solutions to revenue and operational goals.
Technical Expertise
  • Extensive hands‑on experience with Java, JavaEE, Spring Boot, Spring MVC/Web Flux, Microservices, and Kafka.
  • Proficiency with RESTful web services, JPA, SLF4J logging, and application configuration management.
  • Strong relational database skills across DB2, SQL Server, and Oracle.
  • Experience with containerized platforms such as Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.
  • Working knowledge of secure coding standards, Git repository and branching strategies, and code quality tools such as Sonar.
  • Proficiency with monitoring and observability…
