Our client is a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to ending homelessness and supporting children and youth at risk through housing and counseling services. They are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to play a key role in month-end and year-end close, fund and grant accounting, payroll reconciliations, audit preparation (including SEFA support), and compliance reporting.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role supporting the Controller and finance leadership in a collaborative, supportive environment. Responsibilities- Lead month-end and quarter-end close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and preparation of supporting schedules
- Maintain accurate accounting records in compliance with nonprofit US GAAP, including fund accounting, fixed assets, lease accounting (ROU), and internal controls
- Reconcile grant revenue, restricted and unrestricted contributions, deferred revenue, and related receivables
- Prepare and reconcile accounts receivable, cash receipts, and grant funding activity
- Review payroll reports, reconcile payroll and PTO accruals, and support payroll processing as needed
- Prepare audit-ready work papers and support external auditor requests (PBC schedules)
- Assist in the preparation and reconciliation of the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA) and federal grant reporting schedules
- Maintain fixed asset schedules, record additions/disposals, and calculate depreciation
- Support lease accounting processes, including Right-of-Use (ROU) asset tracking and related reconciliations
- Support annual audit, Form 990 preparation, and compliance reporting requirements
- Contribute to process improvements within Sage Intacct and support system and workflow enhancements
- Provide financial reporting support to the Controller and senior finance leadership
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or similar background
- 7+ years of progressive general ledger accounting experience within Nonprofits
- Solid knowledge of nonprofit GAAP, fund accounting, grant compliance, federal awards reporting, and lease accounting principles (ROU)
- Working knowledge of SEFA reporting and federal grant tracking
- Payroll accounting and reconciliation experience
- Hands-on experience supporting audit preparation and responding to auditor requests
- Experience maintaining fixed asset schedules and supporting lease accounting entries
- ERP experience (Sage Intacct preferred)
- Advanced Excel skills, including complex reconciliations and financial analysis
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently
