Our client, an organization serving the community for over four decades, is seeking a Payroll Accountant to support accurate and timely payroll processing and related accounting functions.
This role is responsible for bi-weekly payroll for approximately 220 employees, including direct deposits, garnishments, benefits, 401(k) loans, and other deductions, as well as month-end payroll accounting, reconciliations, payroll tax filings, and audit support.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Process bi-weekly payroll, including reviewing employee timesheets to verify timekeeping records, wages, and PTO accruals, and resolving any discrepancies
- Prepare final paychecks in accordance with state labor code
- Ensure timely and accurate retirement loan repayments and garnishments
- Prepare monthly payroll journals and year end accruals and upload to Sage Intacct
- Perform quarter end reconciliation on all payroll liability and advance accounts
- Support payroll tax filings and annual audits
- Work with HR to perform quarterly timesheet audit
- Ensures proper record retention and maintenance of payroll records
- Work with Paycom team to improve system processes and user experience
- Provide staff timesheet training at New Hire Orientation
- Ad hoc duties as assigned
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting or related field
- At least 5 years of hands-on payroll experience in an exempt and non-exempt workforce
- Previous experience working in a nonprofit or government agency is preferred
- Ability to exercise discretion, maintain confidentiality and behave professionally at all times
- High attention to detail and comfort handling large amounts of data
- Excellent communication skills while interacting within all levels of the organization
- Strong knowledge of California labor law is required (meal & rest breaks, overtime, sick leave, exempt & nonexempt)
- Collaborates with culturally diverse teams with ease
- Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing priorities, and effectively manage multiple assignments under pressure and tight deadlines
- Experience with Sage Intacct or comparable ERP accounting systems preferred
- Paycom administrator experience is a huge plus
- Capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a team
