Job Summary

The Accounting Clerk, under the direction of the Director of Fiscal Services or designee, performs clerical work involving the preparation and maintenance of financial and statistical records, balances and reconciles accounts, prepares payments, processes documents related to financial matters, issues receipts in accordance with the generally accepted accounting principles of the California School Accounting Manual, legal requirements of the state and federal agencies, and the Campbell Union High School District Policies and Regulations.

Responsibilities And Duties
  • Gathers, assembles, tabulates, and checks financial and statistical data.
  • Prepares accounts payable payments using the computer and other automated systems.
  • Receives and codes income issuing receipts as appropriate.
  • Investigates and resolves problems related to payments and receipts in a timely manner.
  • Prepares and processes journal entries.
  • Maintains, processes, and files documents, financial data, and reports.
  • Reviews financial reports for accuracy.
  • Responsible for all other duties and tasks as assigned by the Director of Fiscal Services and/or the Deputy Superintendent.

Qualifications
  • Individual must be a high school graduate.
  • Ability to perform general clerical work including financial recordkeeping, make arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy.
  • Training or experience equivalent to two years in the preparation and maintenance of financial records preferably related to school district accounting.
  • Knowledge of methods, practices, and terminology of financial recordkeeping, office methods, and procedures.
  • Perform and apply basic bookkeeping procedures.
  • Knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable procedures, computer operation, use of computer spreadsheet programs, data entry, and retrieval programs, and various automated accounting systems.
  • Ability to perform clerical work with speed and accuracy including the use of computer and the development of simple spreadsheets related to financial recordkeeping.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relations with those connected in the work.
  • Ability to meet the public and other District employees tactfully and courteously in person and over the telephone.
Required
  • A working knowledge of accounts payable processes, financial record keeping, and general accounting.
  • Proficiency in the use of standard office equipment, including, but not limited to, a computer and associated software.
  • Organize time and resources.
  • Establish and maintain effective relations with district staff, vendors, and the public.
  • Analyze and anticipate problems and inform supervisor.
  • Communicate persuasively in written and oral form.
  • Be flexible and use diplomacy in daily responsibilities.
  • Be involved in group decision making and to accept and implement decisions.
  • Ability to be self-directed and work with little or no supervision.
Desired

At least two years of financial recordkeeping or accounting in public school business services or related field.
