Office Assistant
This position provides general administrative support to the Associated Students General Services Center. Performs duties relative to the daily operations of the office that include answering the phone, data entry, filing, and other support tasks that benefit staff, co-workers, university personnel, and students, where necessary.
Essential functions include processing monetary transactions, selling and issuing transit passes, processing and issuing bike enclosure key and/or locker key deposits and returns, explaining, receiving, and processing applications for the A.S. Affordable Textbook Program, opening and closing duties, answering phones, answering emails, providing correspondence, performing clerical support, taking inventory of office supplies, helping other A.S. departments, running errands, and maintaining the bulletin board.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office 365 programs, ability to work independently, excellent verbal and written communication, ability to provide customer service within a diverse culture, ability to write business correspondence, ability to follow directions, work well with other employees and the general public, learn and adapt to new office procedures in a timely manner, ability to work well under pressure, knowledge of standard office equipment, and accurately count and process high-volume cash transactions.
Work environment, hours, and physical demands include operating in an office environment, using standard office equipment, occasionally lifting or carrying office or event products or supplies up to 40 pounds, reliable and consistent work attendance and professionalism, and working up to 10-15 hours a week.
Other duties may change at any time, with or without notice. Required or preferred education and experience include being a current matriculated San José State University student, at least one year of experience in clerical and administrative support, and federal work-study applicants preferred.
