The Trade Compliance Manager leads trade compliance matters, ensuring adherence to import and export regulations. This role oversees trade compliance operations, implements and optimizes compliance programs, and drives tariff mitigation strategies. The manager proactively identifies risks and opportunities, aligning trade compliance priorities with client’s strategic initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities- Manage day-to-day trade compliance operational activities for client within the US and Canada; support global trade compliance functions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Logistics, R&D, Quality, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with trade laws and internal policies.
- Lead tariff mitigation and duty-saving strategies, including first sale, duty drawback, country of origin determinations, reconciliation, Section 232 tariff assessments, and cost-avoidance initiatives.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve trade compliance programs, policies, SOPs, and internal controls for U.S., Canada, and Europe.
- Identify, assess, and execute process improvements to enhance compliance efficiency, minimize regulatory risk, and drive cost reductions.
- 6+ years of experience in customs, export controls, or related fields, with proven success in managing trade compliance programs and leading cross-functional projects.
- Proficient knowledge of U.S. export regulations (EAR, Census, OFAC sanctions, Commerce Control List, ECCN classification, export licensing, restricted party screening).
- Advanced expertise in U.S. customs regulations (valuation, HTS classification, country of origin determination, import compliance).
- Working knowledge of Canadian and EU import/export trade regulations.
- Demonstrated experience implementing tariff mitigation strategies (FTAs, duty drawback, reconciliation, etc.).
- U.S. Licensed Customs Broker (highly preferred).
- Experience with Oracle ERP systems and data analytics/visualization tools (e.g., Power BI).
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within life sciences.
