Position Summary: Manages safety policies and ensures compliance with OSHA regulations and safety policies for Civil Underground construction. Maintains OSHA logs, inspections and various other items.
General Tasks and Responsibilities- Conduct safety training and education programs and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
- Maintain OSHA record‑keeping logs.
- Manage employee cases.
- Conduct job‑site inspections.
- Monitor PPE equipment to maintain an adequate supply needed for the project.
- Review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors.
- Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers' health and safety.
- Investigate accidents to identify causes and to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
- Investigate the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, and other conditions that could affect employee health, comfort, or performance.
- Develop and maintain hygiene programs such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, ventilation surveys, and asbestos management plans.
- Collaborate with engineers and physicians to institute control and remedial measures for hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.
- Provide new‑employee safety and field orientations and develop materials for these presentations.
- Collect samples of dust, gases, vapors, and other potentially toxic materials for analysis.
- Assume additional responsibilities as directed by division and corporate management. Travel as required to attend meetings, site visits, training, etc. Ability to relocate as needed.
- Working knowledge of applicable tunnel safety regulations.
- Working knowledge of typical shaft sinking operations.
- Working knowledge of conventional tunnel construction processes including, but not limited to, drilling, blasting, soft ground excavation, muck haulage, shotcrete application, rock bolt installation, and steel set installation.
- Working knowledge of underground ventilation systems, including testing airflow.
- Qualified to test for hazardous tunnel gases, interpret results, and take appropriate actions.

- Bachelor's degree in OSH or related field.
- 5‑10 years in underground construction experience required.
- Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification or obtained within the first year.
- OSHA 30‑hour course in Construction Safety.

Salary $120,000-$200,000
