The Assistant Project Manager is a full-time role that supports Project Managers and Project Executives by coordinating multi-department efforts to deliver HVAC and plumbing construction projects on schedule, on budget, and to specification. You will act as a primary customer contact (escalating key decisions to the PM/PX), supervise project staff, assist with estimating, proposal writing, budgeting, change management, and contract administration, and help develop new business.
The role requires flexibility to work at varying sites and close collaboration with engineering, purchasing, accounting, construction, and service teams.
- Coordinate and supervise staff from multiple departments throughout the project lifecycle and act as primary on-site customer contact.
- Assist PM/PX with project planning, budgeting, tracking, cost control, change orders, and contract administration.
- Support estimating, conceptual design, proposal preparation, presentations, and contract negotiations.
- Maintain project documentation (letters, memos, proposals, change orders) and ensure sound business/legal procedures.
- Foster and maintain cordial relationships with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Help develop new business opportunities and contribute to project handoffs and closeout activities.
- 3+ years’ experience assisting or managing HVAC/plumbing construction projects or experience in estimating, design, and management of projects ranging from $50k to $25M+.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management preferred but not required.
- Strong project management, organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to handle high-volume issues.
- Experience with budgeting, cost control, and preparing project documentation.
- Proven communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities; comfortable working across departments and project sites.
