Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to join their growing team in San Jose, California. This leadership role is responsible for managing complex public works construction projects involving underground wet utilities, water distribution systems, sewer systems, storm drain improvements, pump stations, and water/wastewater treatment facilities throughout Northern California.

The ideal candidate will be a proven project leader with extensive experience overseeing public infrastructure projects from preconstruction through closeout while managing budgets, schedules, subcontractors, client relationships, and project teams.

Responsibilities

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to join their growing team in San Jose, California. This leadership role is responsible for managing complex public works construction projects involving underground wet utilities, water distribution systems, sewer systems, storm drain improvements, pump stations, and water/wastewater treatment facilities throughout Northern California.

The ideal candidate will be a proven project leader with extensive experience overseeing public infrastructure projects from preconstruction through closeout while managing budgets, schedules, subcontractors, client relationships, and project teams.

  • Manage multiple public works construction projects simultaneously from award through completion.
  • Oversee project financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and profitability.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules and ensure milestones are achieved.
  • Lead project teams consisting of project managers, project engineers, superintendents, and field personnel.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, municipalities, utility agencies, engineers, and consultants.
  • Review contracts, specifications, plans, and change orders.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks while developing solutions to complex construction challenges.
  • Negotiate subcontract agreements and manage subcontractor performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all project safety, quality, environmental, and contractual requirements.
  • Participate in project pursuits, preconstruction planning, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Mentor and develop junior project management staff.
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience as a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager managing public works construction projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing underground wet utility projects
    , including water, sewer, and storm drain infrastructure, and/or water or wastewater treatment plant construction projects
    .
  • Strong understanding of public agency contracting procedures, specifications, and compliance requirements.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Experience managing project budgets ranging from several million dollars to large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, project controls, scheduling, cost management, and contract administration.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency with construction management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience working with municipalities, water districts, sanitation districts, and other public agencies throughout California.
  • Professional certifications such as PMP, CCM, or PE are a plus.

Qualified applicants must have direct experience as a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager on public works underground wet utility or water/wastewater treatment construction projects. Applicants without this experience will not be considered.
